Theodorus Beelen (1807-1884) was Chamberlain to Pope Pius
IX, a Theologian, a canon and a professor in the Catholic
University College of Leuven. He took the initiative, with
other language scientists, to produce a new Bible translation.
The translation of the Old Testament was published in 1896.
