Gerrit ten Bruggecate was born in Almelo on March 23,
1803 as the son of Hermannus ten Bruggencate and Anna Hagedoorn.
It is known that he was a trader in colonial goods. He married
Christina Johana Hagendoorn in 1827 and they had 8 children.
Besides his occupation as trader, he was also devoted to poetry.
His poetry was published in yearbooks and monthly magazines.
The next step was the publishing of all his poems in a collection,
this happened in the year 1838. He died on March 6, 1853,
aged almost 50.
He used the Divine Name in the poem 'Mozes' dood'. ('the
death of Moses') (see: 'Neerlands Letterkunde in de Negentiende
