Abram Pieter Van Groningen was born in Haarlem on March
7, 1798. His parents were Lambertus Van Groningen, a common
respected religious knowledge teacher at the Reformed church
and Maria Bayard. Abram Pieter studied theology, language
and literature and history in Leiden. He was also founder
of the student society "Rederijkers" which is devoted
to poetry. Isaac Da Costa, another well known poet, was also
a member for a time. In 1821 he became the minister at Bleskensgraaf-en-Hofwegen,
in 1827 in 's Gravendeel and in 1837 in Ridderkerk. He married
M. Sitters on April 23, 1845. His marriage is described as
"a marriage that, even though not blessed with children,
opened for him a well of new joie de vivre". Abram Pieter
died on December 22, 1861 in Ridderkerk at age 63.
He used the Divine Name in the poem 'De zang van Nerija's
zoon' (can be found in: 'Neerlands Letterkunde in de Negentiende
Eeuw' - Bloemlezing ten gebruike bij de beoefening onzer letterkunde'
- published in 1877 by D.A. Thieme).
